HS2-USC STAR Research Program

HS2 has successfully secured a collaboration with USC in exclusively offering its prestigious and inaccessible Science, Technology And Research program for our students.

Selective HS2 students will have a chance to be working with real USC professors on real research in various medical and engineering fields on-location in several USC labs on its campus in downtown Los Angeles. Furthermore, if participating students have completed all assignments satisfactorily, their names may be included when eventually the research is published. Not only will students gain meaningful and practical experience doing real research, but also gain worldwide recognition from top research sanctioned by one of the best universities in the world. It is an understatement to state that this accolade will prop up a student's prestige, which in turn will tremendously impact one’s chances of getting accepted by the top US universities. On top of all of the benefits of joining this one of a kind program, all participants will be put on the “Dean’s Tag” when applying to USC later on, further securing an extreme advantage of getting accepted by USC. Requirements:

1. 8th graders and up.

2. Fluent in English.

3. Have to commit for 8 weeks on site research at various USC campuses in LA.

4. Students need to provide their CV.

5. A recommendation letter from a science teacher.

6. A personal statement explaining what areas of science research they are interested in (top 3 choices depending on availability, first come first serve).

Notes:

* Name inclusion in publication is not guaranteed depending on the participant’s completion of assignments and dedication, as well as lead researcher’s discretion.

* Publication dates are not guaranteed depending on the completion of the research. That means the publication might not be right after the student finishes the session.

* Participation is mandatory to be onsite at a minimum 8 weeks in the lab.

* After acquiring their student ID, participants are required to complete 3 online safety training sessions for GLS certification before the start of the research. Without the certification, the participants will not be allowed in the lab.

* Two certificates will be issued, one for the General Lab Safety (GLS) as well as a USC SCACE certificate at the end of the program.

* Participants have a chance to enroll for more than a year with the same professor or choose another professor in a different research for a lesser fee in subsequent years. The longer the participation, the better it looks on the resume.

* Students will have an “interview” day (like an orientation) visiting all labs and talking to their targeted professors, and then make their own decision which project to work on for an intensive 6-10 week lab-based summer camp. Again, students need to list their top 3 choices in case their first or second choice is full.

* Students can communicate with professors if they have family vacations or anything going on in between these 6+ weeks, but average lab hours per week is around 30.

* After the summer camp, students could possibly take the projects to California high school science fair and many other science competitions as a team or individual. They can also continue to work with faculty for thesis publications. The more contribution, but more credits they will receive.

* ID will expire at the end of the program.

* Presently admission is on a rolling basis.
