February 2023 Webinar Question & Answer With Patrick

At HS2 Academy, we believe that education should be accessible and available to all. That's why we hold free monthly webinars, where our expert college counselor Patrick details the newest updates and need to knows around the college admissions community. He is also available to answer any questions that students and parents may have about the college admissions process. Our recent webinar in February included an insightful Q&A section, where Patrick addressed a range of questions from our audience, covering topics such as summer programs for high schoolers, AP tests and self-studying, getting deferred from a college, and how electives and activities may benefit your college applications. One of the topics discussed in this Q&A was summer programs for high schoolers. Patrick emphasized the importance of choosing programs that align with the student's interests and goals, as well as programs that offer a challenging and rewarding experience. He recommended that students research programs thoroughly before applying and also suggested that they consider programs that are selective and prestigious, as they can make for impressive additions to college applications.

Another topic that came up was AP tests and self-studying. Patrick advised students to take as many AP courses as possible, as they demonstrate a commitment to challenging coursework and can help students stand out in the college application process. He also encouraged students to self-study for AP exams if their school does not offer a particular AP course.

One student asked about getting deferred from a college, and Patrick provided helpful insights into the process. He explained that being deferred does not necessarily mean rejection and that students should take advantage of the opportunity to provide additional information and updates to the admissions committee. Patrick advised students to send a letter of continued interest, additional letters of recommendation, and any new accomplishments or awards that may have occurred since the initial application.

Patrick also discussed how electives and activities can benefit college applications. He stressed that colleges are looking for well-rounded students and that students should choose electives and activities that align with their interests and goals. He recommended that students seek out leadership positions, participate in community service, and pursue opportunities that demonstrate a passion for learning and personal growth.

Overall, this Q&A session was extremely informative and provided valuable insights for students and parents navigating the college application process. We hope you find this information helpful and will join us for our next webinar!
